The Economics of Outrage

Why bloggers intentionally try to piss you off

By Jeffrey Baumgartner

The economics of outrage - or why bloggers intentionally try to piss you off

professional bloggers earn income from eyeballs, clicks and visits

The blogger publishes a contentious blog post...

People read the blog post, are outraged and share their outrage on social media

Where their friends are outraged and share the blog post to their friends

Causing even more outrage, shares and income for the blogger

Ironically, the blogger is often not interested in the controversy - only the income potential

Soon the blogger is writing another post to generate more outrage and more income

But you do not have to fall into this trap. Instead, think before you click
